People who use adblock are douchbags.
Its the same as stealing if you dont want to support a website that has ads then dont go on it.
Its like walking in to a grocery store taking some stuff and not paying

The websites are open. Perhaps if they want to prevent people from stealing, then they should lock their websites down to unpaid customers, and only with a paid account will you be allowed to browse the site.

I usually use adblock because those ads are annoying.

WTF ARE YOU SAYING ??
If a store is open that means you can go in and take whatever you want without paying ??
What do you think will happen if everyone used adblock do you think that websites will still be open for free ? they will be open only to paying costumers plain and simple.
Some sites already have a donation button that makes the ads go away so if the ads bother you be a decent human being and pay up or get out!!

You're misunderstanding the use of "open" here.

In the context of a store being open, it means their doors are not locked, and people are free to come in and browse the product or service they wish to purchase.

But in this case, the thing you go to is the product itself. If you go to Youtube, the product/service are the videos that you watch on the website. In this instance, Youtube is "open" to everyone, but it means something different from the first example. To be open or closed in this instance is to mean that people can visit the website, but certain things may or may not be blocked off to them. Youtube Red is a paid service, and it is closed to non-paying viewers. It doesn't mean that their doors are closed and no one can pay for it, it means that as soon as they pay for it, they're allowed in.

To compare a 24/7 service to a physical store invites all sorts of compare and contrast issues, and you really shouldn't do it, unless you're trying to illustrate a larger point such as both are businesses.

Thats great and all but i dont see how being open or closed have to do with you stealing.
And by stealing i mean you are cutting off revenue from a compny.
You should be greatful that people put out content for "free" out there does it hurt you so much to just turn away when an ad plays?? heck lots of ads even have a skip button.

Refusing to go into a store cuts off revenue from you as a customer, is that stealing?

Refusing to look at a billboard on the highway is about the equal amount of action taken. Is that stealing?

These websites offer their content for free. The ads they show you are not a conditional requirement to view the content. Some websites do not offer their content for free, and they lock their service behind a paywall.

Websites put on ads for a reason i dont think they do it for the lol's.
If a store has a lot of traffic but no one is buying meaning alot of people go in look around and not buy stuff that store will get closed real fast.
same with websites (im talking about big ones like IGN YOUTUBE) BUT the good thing about the way ads work on the internet is that even if you go in and not do much they are still getting money from you.
but if everyone will use adblock they will just close the websites and make you pay if you want in.. Is that what you want ?

Know how I read that as? Businesses are making money off of you without your consent.

I invite them to transform into a closed business model. I invite Youtube to shut its service off to anyone but paid customers. They'll learn to put up with it until regular consumers get to choose how and when, and what types of ads they're subjected to. At which point they can effectively negate the need for adblock.

New business strategies like what I described. If they don't want people to block their ads, then they don't make their ads so annoying so people feel the need to block them. Implement them in a way people can enjoy them. Make them appear more acceptable. Make them viewable by people who are at their job, aka no nsfw content.

Almost everyone on the forum who has a picture for a signature links it to their list. That is essentially an advertisement for their list. Some people disable them, but the majority of the people prefer to keep them on. It's fitting to the site and the community, and they don't demand your attention or clickbait you. Furthermore adblock has no reason to block this form of advertisement.

They don't make money, but why can't they? Whether it's a message or a clickable advertisement, non-intrusive advertising is possible and still has a potential for profit. Youtube podcasts put live spoken advertisements into their podcast, and sometimes make them fun or relateable.

Many youtube stars make more money off of memorabilia than on youtube advertisement money. MAL could have a better online store, or rather an online store at all. Sometimes this site sells things and most of the time they don't. Where's the official myanimelist.net t-shirt, wristbands, underwear, hats, key chains, and anything else? It's not there.

Thats not how ads work who is gonna pay you if advertise yourself in your own ad ?
You need to advertise other people in order to make profit so in this website case you find some user and tell him "hey want me to advertise your list ? that will be 1 usd per day" then you put hes list on your signiture and watch the money flow.
so ye its totally possible to make a profit with what you said

Advertisements come in all shapes and forms. We don't make any money advertising ourselves, at least not generally speaking. Sometimes users come up around here with something to sell. I've even bought a shirt from a user here before.

I haven't in the past, but jeez these frigging ads on this site have gone beserk, to the point now that I am not willing to visit this site again without it. I think NoScript will be good, will try it.

It would have been ok if it was just a few ads here and there, but intrusive pop ups with audio, and ads splattered from arseholes to breakfast on every page on this site - today I finally have had enough.

Hrumph.
idk about you but the closer a girl gets to looking like ronald mcdonald, the more aroused i become. CAV

I didn’t use any specific script. I just used the ”Click and block” feature (I use Ublock Origin but I remember Adblock had it too) and kept on blocking until all of the banners were gone

I haven’t experienced any problems here on MAL aside from certain links becoming unclickable at times. You should be able to get by

I once used Adblock on MAL, but then I saw a sad face (on left and right side of my screen) and below it was written:-
"We need to pay the bills too so please unblock our ads" or something of that sorts.
Therefore, I felt a little bit guilty and turned off my adblock.

Yup. I use AdRemover for Google Chrome, not just on MAL, but for all the websites I visit.

Why?

Because of the fact that I a) don't have tons of money to throw around to become a supporter and b) don't wish to be continuously inundated by ads when I'm browsing around, so...
